Trash Can

IMG_7480.jpg

I'm From a small town in Massachusetts. I saw a need to keep our pristine beaches cleaner. One beach in my town has no trash cans an i saw a need for place for beachgoers to throw away their trash. The reason I've elected to make this out of wood is to impose the least amount possible and still have a very natural and beachy theme.

Gathering Materials

  1. You will need120ft of 1x4's
  2. Screws
  3. Circular saw
  4. Drill with drilling bit and a bit to fit your screws
  5. hinges
  6. lock

4 Walls

The height of the trash can will be 3ft. You will cut all pieces that make the outer walls to the 3ft. you will be assembling the panels in a lattice or staggered style pattern. Overall width will be 2ft. and the depth will be two feet as well. the panels will be comprised of 9 3ft 1x4s where the back 1x4 overlap by 1.5in leaving a 1in gap between the 1x4 in front. The side walls will be recessed creating a 2ft by 2ft box that only needs a lid. there is no bottom so it will fit well into the sand.

Lid

You will need an to use 14ft of 1x4 to build the lid to the trash can.

it will be square shape from a side view and will be 4 in width by 1ft top piece on the lid.

Assembly

the four sides will screw into each other. Side panels will be recessed while flush in relation to front and back as shown in picture. lid will be fixed with a set of hinges and a lock at the front.
