Two Strand Button Knot

Traditionally uses as a button for clothing the button knot has many other uses.

Treat the soft carabiner as you would a light duty metallic one.

To close - slide the lock knot to the left against the button.

To open - slide the lock knot to the right so that you can bring the button through the opening.

This button knot is ABOK 980.

You will need a small piece of paper or light cardboard with a hole cut in the center

Fold your cord in half and push the loop through the hole in the paper.

This sets the length of the loop for your project.

It also gets the loop out of the way

Bring the upper cord in a counter clockwise loop.

Bring the same end under the loop you just formed.

NOTE:

In the next three steps the text and the left hand photo describe what is to be done.

The right hand photo shows the result.

Bring working end WE over to point X going under, over, under and over the four strands.

Bring WE under X.

Bring WE across to point X going under, over, under and over.

Tighten the knot until the bights are even. Notice it resembles a 3 lead, 4 bight Turkshead Knot.

Now take WE and bring it next to the adjacent cord in the base knot.

Follow that cord around.

a. Bring WE under one strand.

b. Bring WE under one strand.

c. Bring WE under 2 strands

d. WE goes down through the hole - red circle.

Take the remaining end and follow the adjacent cord around in a similar manner.

Tuck one.

Tuck two.

Tuck three.

And down through the hole - red circle.

Tighten the knot before removing the paper.

Remove the paper and fold the bights down.

Slowly take the slack out.

Trim the ends - not shown.
