Hey! guy's back with another project,it was a long time since I posted my last instructable(cause of my exams),and in this instructable I am going to help you guys making your own rechargeable ultra bright emergency led light.

Ways In Which You Can Use It:

  • When there is a cutoff.
  • During campaigning.
  • Using it as a regular flashlight.
  • Can also be used for reading at night.

Reason Why I Make One For Myself:

So as I told you my exams were going last month.I was studying late at night and there was not proper light system in my room.I was having a lamp, but it was a USB one,so to over-come this problem I made a portable ultra-bright lamp.If you liked my instructable then don't forget to comment what you think and share it with your friends.

COLLECTING MATERIALs & TOOLs

Materials and tools are easily available online or in local market.I don't know how much it is going to cost you.Truly,I didn't spend a penny on making it,all the materials and tools were available at my home.

MATERIALS:

  • 4V led strip x2 (ebay).
  • Blue led indicator (ebay).
  • 1N007 diode (ebay).
  • 360‎Ω - 470‎Ω resistor (locally or radioshack).
  • Simple sliding switch (ebay)
  • Dc power jack (ebay)
  • Copper pieces which will work as heatsink (ebay)
  • A plastic box (ebay)
  • And some stationary materials.

TOOLS:

  • Soldering Iron
  • Glue Gun
  • 5V dc charger.

JOINING THE LED STRIPS TOGETHER

Take two wire(red & black) and join the positive and negative of the one strip to that of the another.Use heat sink to secure them on place.Once they are joined put some glue gun on the place of joints.

ADDING THE COPPER PIECES

IMG_20170414_144331.jpg

I was not having the heat sink so I surfed through internet how can I make one,and I got to find that copper will work fine.Mine led strip was having a aluminium strip at the back which work's fine but in addition I also added the copper pieces using rubber glue and if you have heatsink paste than use it.

TEST IT IF WORKING OR NOT

IMG_20170414_144350.jpg

Use your 4v battery and pass the current through any of the + or - on any of the 2 strips. All the led should light up properly. If not that remove the glue or and re-solder the wires.

SOLDERING THE ELECTRONICS & SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM

Follow the schematic and solder the 1N007 diode and the resistor to the led,dc jack and the switch.

NOTE:DO NOT JOIN THE BATTERY AND THE LED STRIPS AT THIS TIME AS IT WILL MAKE I DIFFICULT TO PUT THEM INSIDE THE BOX.

HOW IT WORKS:Its working is simple I just added a diode so that the battery charge does not flow back during charging, resistor the reduce the 5v power supply if you not do this than your led will last for long.About the charging I will describe the charging process in step 8.

FITTING THE CIRCUIT INSIDE THE BOX

Use your soldering iron and a sharp xacto knife or a cutter to make space for the dc jack, led and the switch on the left side of the plastic box.

SECURING & PUTTING THE BATTERY AND THE LED STRIPS

IMG_20170417_181215_HDR.jpg

Use some glue and your duct tape to place the led strips on the inside top of the box.Now using glue gun secure the battery and the electric circuit at place.

CHARGING OUR BATTERY

IMG_20170417_181314_HDR.jpg

I do not suggest charging your 4v battery with 5v as it can explode, but limiting the charging time to 1 hour can solve the problem. You can also use lithium battery chargers available in the market.

COLOR IT

Go to the supermarket and buy the favourite color of spray paint or acrylic paint.I used acrylic paint as acrylic paint have a wider color variety to choose from and also it gives more control over painting.I only used a single color as at that time I was not having any interesting idea on how to paint it.But it still looks quite fancy.

USE IT

Now use your super bright led light for anything you want.

VERSION 2.0 IDEAs:

  • Add a second way charger that is a solar panel.
  • Making it waterproof by using some silicon or glue gun.
  • Making it dimmable.
