Upcycling

Fast fashion is estimated to cause an annual consumption of about 80 billion new articles of clothing world wide. 20% of the global wastewater is caused by fabric dyeing, setting the fashion industry at the second most polluting industry for water. Not to forget, Thanks to fast fashion, wearable clothing worth $460 billion is thrown away every year.

This problem was brought up to me and I decided to look into upcycling and a way to make more sustainable clothing, which is what this instructable is about.

I hope that this inspires you to do the same :)

  • Inspiration/Tutorials/Templates
  • Buttons, fabric, and anything else you might want to add to your designs

Find Your Materials

Go through your closet and find any pieces of clothing you don't use or are no longer in a wearable state. Find anything that is too small, dirty, or ripped. Basically, anything that you have not worn frequently in the past year.

Find Inspiration

Once you have your materials, think about what you need to do to be successful. Find the designs you most like and feel best in. Find anything that you want to create that is made out of cloth. Plan out what you are going to create. Search up templates, ideas, inspiration, and tutorials to complete your task.

Create!

Start creating! Use seam rippers to take apart clothings to get larger pieces of fabric or just sew new parts into a base piece. Cut your fabric as needed, and don't worry about the patches, it looks cool! Make the most out of what you have.

Finish Your Piece

Finish the piece and wear it!

You look amazing, by the way ;)
