VERSATILE MINI WORKBENCH
BUILDING THIS INSTRUCTABLE IS FUN.
AND A GREAT WAY TO MAKE INTRICATE ITEMS ON.
NO WORKSHOP SHOULD BE WITHOUT A MINI WORKBENCH.
AS I CAN PICK IT UP AND PLACE IT ANY WHERE I LIKE AND DO MOST THINGS A FULL SIZE BENCH CAN DO.
ANY WAYS
LETS GET TO IT
THINGS YOU WILL NEED
GLUE GUN /OR WOOD GLUE.
RULER,TAPE MEASURE ETC.
SQUARE
FILE/RASP
PENCIL/ MARKING KNIFE.
CLAMPS.
DRILL.
COUNTERSINK
19MM FORSTNER DRILL BIT
PLANE.
JIGSAW/OR ANY SAW
SANDPAPER.
SHELLAC , VARNISH
6, 2 INCH SCREW,S
PLY WOOD 18 INCH LONG 10 INCH WIDE,
PIECE OF WOOD 14 INCH BY 8 INCH
4CM OR LARGER PIECE OF WOOD 4CM ALL THE WAY ROUND BIGGER THAN THE PLY WOOD AND OTHER PIECE OF WOOD
MARK YOUR MEASUREMENTS
GRAB YOUR RULER AND PENCIL.
THEN MARK UP YOUR MEASUREMENTS
LEAVING THE 4CM OR LARGER SPACE, THIS WILL BE THE BOTTOM OF THE BENCH
CUTTING
NOW I USED A JIGSAW.
BUT ANY SAW WILL DO.
EITHER BY USING MY MEASUREMENTS. OR YOUR OWN.
SAW THE PIECES OF WOOD, TO THE REQUIRED WIDTH/LENGTH
SQUARING UP
ONCE YOU HAVE ALL 3 PIECES OF WOOD CUT .
THEN USING A SQUARE MAKE SURE ITS ALL SQUARED UP.
SQUARE ANY UNEVEN SIDES
ONCE YOU HAVE USED YOUR SQUARE .
ANY UNEVEN SIDES, LEVEL THEM OUT USING A PLANE, OR THE LIKES OF
GLUE UP
WITH THE PLY AND THE 14 X 8
GLUE THEM SO THAT THE PLY IS ON TOP
AND CLAMP
FINISH THE GLUE UP
NOW WITH THE BIG BOTTOM PIECE GLUE IT TO THE OTHER PIECES.
THEN CLAMP THEM.
NOW COUNTERSINK
NOW COUNTERSINK.
SO THAT WHEN THE SCREWS GO IN THERE IS NOTHING OBSTRUCTING THE WORKBENCH TOP
ADD SCREWS
NOW SCREW IN THE SCREWS.
AND USING YOUR RASP GENTLY REMOVE ANY SPLINTERS FROM WHERE THE SCREWS WERE COUNTERSUNK.
EITHER A RASP OR SAN PAPER
CLEAN UP
NOW USING SANDPAPER.AND A RASP.
SAND DOWN ANY SCRUFFY BITS.
THEN GIVE THE TOP (PLY WOOD) A GOOD SANDING READY FOR THE LATER STAGES.
OPTIONAL INLAY
1 INCH IN FROM EITHER END CARVE OR ROUTER AN INLAY.
THIS IS OBVIOUSLY OPTIONAL.
I ADDED IT TO MAKE THE INSTRUCTABLE LOOK BETTER
I USED A LEFT OVER STRIP OF PLY WHICH WAS PERFECT.
IT WAS 16 INCH LONG AND 1 CM WIDE.
I CHISELLED AFTER MARKING THE DEPTH.
WHEN I REACHED THE DEPTH POINT,
SANDED THE GROOVE.
THEN APPLIED GLUE.
THEN PLACED THE PLY IN THE GROOVE AND CLAMPED IT
DRILLING BENCH DOG HOLES
THIS IS OPTIONAL ALSO.
GRAB YOUR 19MM DRILL BIT
TRY TO GET YOUR MEASUREMENTS SPOT ON.
EVERY ONE HAS THEIR OWN WAY TO MEASURE SO I WILL LEAVE THAT DOWN TO YOU,
IF YOU DO HAPPEN TO GET STUCK SEND ME A MESSAGE AND I WILL GLADLY HELP
BUT AS A RULE OF THUMB.
I TRY AND LEAVE ABOUT 2 INCHES SPACE BETWEEN EACH HOLE NORMALLY DO 2 INCHS APART IN A SQUARE .
AND I PUT THE DRILL BIT AGAINST THE WOOD AND MAKE A MARK I THEN STICK ELECTRICAL TAPE AROUND THE MARK SO WHEN IM BORING A HOLE AS SOON AS THE TAPE IS FLUSH WITH THE WORK SURFACE I KNOW WHEN TO STOP
FOR THE FINISHING TOUCH
TO FINISH OFF
I HAD SOME BOTTLED SHELLAC.
WHICH IS MY FAVOURITE WHEN IT COMES TO VARNISH ETC,
MAKE SURE THE BENCH TOP HAS BEEN SANDED ETC,
THEN APPLY AS MANY COATS AS YOU SEE FIT.
AND THAT IS THAT .
YOU NOW HAVE A WORKBENCH THATS SO VERSATILE.
ANY WAY.
STAY SAFE.
AND IF YOU LIKE IT PLEASE VOTE.
MUCH LOVE.
