There are many ways to prevent viruses from entering your computer. Many of them can be avoided real easily.
Emails: Emails have become real nasty over the years. Thankfully the Hotmail and g mail spam softwares are really cleaning up well. Every day tons of viruses are sent in emails. They are disguised to be clean and nice, but in reality, its just a simple way to have your life robbed in front of your eyes. So you should prevent opening any cheesy emails, like the free laptops and the deceiving advertisements. Overall you should never sign up for a sight unless it is safe and a large population of internet users use it. An easy way to find that out is by asking google. He has the answers and reviews to many sites. Delete chain emails and junk email. Do not forward or reply to any to them. These types of email are considered spam - unsolicited, intrusive messages that clog up the inboxes and networks.

Viruses- on the Move
Do not download any files from strangers.
Take caution when downloading files from the Internet. Ensure that the source is a legitimate and reputable one. Verify that GOOGLE and other websites and reviews guarantee its safe. And remember, when viruses enter, they don't leave without something. Remember to back up your files on a regular basis. If a virus destroys your files, at least you can replace them with your back-up copy. You should store your backup copy in a separate location from your work files, like on a disc, a USB, or even another computer. And remember to also not open any files attached to an email from an unknown, suspicious or untrustworthy source. Also take caution when opening files from any site, because the longer they go unchecked, the more likely it is possible it could be infected .VIRUSES HAVE THE ABILITY TO DUPLICATE AND CONTINUE TO INFECT BY THEMSELVES. Which is why you should always be on the look out for problems.

Detection
There are MANY ways to detect a virus. Here are some.
Virus, Spyware and Worm tend to infect through silence. But their activities can be detected with simple way, if you connect to the internet or in a network that connected to the internet, just do nothing with your computer and watch the network connection. If network connection show sending and receiving data all the time, it could be your computer have some of them. But makesure do not do any activity on your computer.
If you cannot see the network connection, click Start -> Setting -> Control Panel -> Network Connection, there are icon with two monitors and keep blinking whenever there’s sending and receiving data.
Which can mean many things, one that files are being sent back and forth, or, there's something sending some private info.
Check the Speed and compare. Is it much slower or a bit slower? If your PC’s speed much slower than before, you can add more possibility that your PC has been infected.
If your computer crashes frequently, you have a problem. That means your computer is ill ;(. But theres hope. In the next step :).
Open some documents and files. If you get an alert saying that you are not able to open them, than consider a virus.
Look to see if your menus, documents and instant messages or emails appear distorted. Anything you see that's not normal for your system is an indication that you may have a virus.
Also, a somewhat common issue are distorted icons. When you see that, that either means you have a bad screen or terribble eyes, or you have a virus.

ELIMINATION
If you have a file, and you know its faulty, and you know its name, than you are in luck! I have my own way of resolving some issues. First open task bar, than go to processes, and look for any suspicious names or activity. End them, than find there source. Delete them immediately. (Recommend to end process tree). To do that, click start and then type in task manger. From there go to processes and applications. Then right click any activity and click end. This a temporary solution!

Regedit. Registration Edit
1. To change the registry data needs to run Microsoft Registry Editor - RegEdit.exe. You can click the Start Button, then select Run... item. When the Run Window will appear, then type 'RegEdit' into Open: textbox and click OK button.
2. You might be unable to RegEdit, because the virus blocks the doorway. In this case, you need to bring up your Windows in Safe Mode to run the RegEdit. Sometimes, you need to login the Administrator account. Therefore, make sure you know your Administrator account's password when you own the new computer.
3. Microsoft System Configuration Utility MSConfig.exe keeps entries of Start-Up programs. Besides that, System Registry has Run, RunOnce and RunOnceEx entry nodes to manage which program can run while Windows is starting.
4. Go down to the node in HEKY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion, then look for program entry inside the Run, RunOnce and RunOnceEX. If you find something you don't know, then you type the program name .exe name into the following Search box to find out what's that. If the .exe name is the virus or spyware, then you can delete it.
