  • Beanie (i used a simple black knit one from H&M)
  • A long-sleeved shirt (I used one matching the color of my beanie with a silver star pattern)
  • Stretchy fabric in any color (for the inner ears)
  • Needle and thread (to get a stitched/scrappy look I used black thread)
  • Scissors
  • Ruler (foot with cm and in)

Optional supplies

  • Colored buttons from a craft store (Michaels, hobby lobby, etc.)
  • Lightweight earrings or pins (I recommend hoop earrings)
  • Fabric scraps
  • A jiggly cat (to step on your fabric and play with your string)

Making the Ears!

First, take the sleeves of your shirt and cut off about 1"2' of the sleeve. Take the sleeves and trim them to a roughly oval shape. Next, take your stretchy fabric and make a shape, as shown in the picture, about 9 1/2 inches long by 7 centimeters at its largest point (it should be at the bottom/sleeve seam side). Sew them "good side" together by pressing the two fabrics together at the edge and stitching it with small tight stitches. Stitch the entire ear leaving where the seam of the sleeve is, this way, you'll be able to stuff the ear!

Stuffing Them!

Take your fabric scraps and loosely stuff them. If you want less floppy ears feel free to use some more fabric but for the best result, I found it better to use less. This step is extremely simple.

Adding the Accessories!

How to Sew a Two Hole Button
How to sew a four hole button

(Skip this step if you would like to) Buttons, buttons, buttons! This part was the best, and hardest when I was making my beanie because I had to learn how to sew buttons in. This part is pretty simple if you know how to sew buttons, all you have to do is figure out the placement of your buttons and, if you want, the earrings and pins. I added a dull safety pin and a gold hoop earring for some flare! For how to stitch buttons use the videos above. (I used these same videos)

Decorating the Beanie!

Take buttons, earrings, or anything else, and decorate the beanie just like the ears! I made a cute button design on the front of the beanie!

Connecting the Ears to the Beanie!

The final step, making the cute hat! All you have to do is sew the bunny ears to the back of the hat in the fold and, BAM- you have a bunny beanie!
