Water Bottle Light

Inspired by a man who created a light using the sun with a water bottle, I decided to try to make a lamp version. This is a cheap & safe alternative to kerosine in places with little to no access to power ( I got this idea after one of my mother's friends got trapped in a Pakistani city that was criticizing the government. They turned off the power for three months.) It can either be used as a lantern or be mounted to a wall. I made the cap ring bigger than the water bottle lid so even Body Armor bottles fit. If it is loose, a little glue or tape should keep it in place.

DO NOT DRINK!!! THE BATTERY WILL CORRODE!!! I am currently trying to find a cheap and easy way to fix this, but for now, the water will not be potable afterward.

Supplies

The part can be printed with any filament in 8 hours (DO NOT USE PETG!), water bottles can be filled with any liquid if clean water is not accessible. The water bottle light lasts around 3 days and is 16 cents on amazon. Some screws or a wire can be used based on what you would want to do with it but are not required.

Build the Bottom of the Base

On Tinkercad, grab a cylinder and set the dimensions to 100mmx100mmx5mm. Grab another and set it to 6.35mmx6.35mmx5mm (Maybe thicker if you want it to be sturdier, but this should hold well). On the small cylinder, center a hole 4.83mmx4.83mmx5mm. Group the small cylinder and hole then duplicate it 3 or 4 times (or as many screw holes you would like). align them with the corners of the large cylinder then group.

Build the Large Support

Grap a new cylinder and size it up to75mmx75mmx52mm. Do the same step you did with the screw holes with a hole 68mmx68mmx52mm. center and group with base.

Make the Cap Holder.

This shape can be smaller if you want to skip the hassle of gluing bottles with smaller lids, but mine is. the largest I would recommend. Make a cylinder 49.53mmx49.53mmx18mm. Make a hole 40.8mmx40.8mmx18mm. Raise the hole five millimeters off the ground. Center and group with the cylinder and then the base

Put Light in Bottle & Put Bottle in Base

Take out the tab in the light; it will immediately turn on. stick in in the water bottle and attach it to the base. Turn off the light to see it in action. Not as strong as the design I based it on, but it lasts at night. Lasts 3 days.

Optional: Make a Lamp or Screw Into Wall

Tie some wires onto the base to make it a lamp or screw into the side of a wall. When the battery dies, just put in a new bulb. Water will eventually turn brown, so replace it after a month. Some facts are included about the design.
