Can we generate electricity from water?

Think!

In this Instructable I will show you how to generate electricity from Water.

This instructable was inspired from

https://www.instructables.com/id/Water-Powered-Fla...

Here, water is used as a source of energy. Follow the steps to make it more clear.

Gather Materials

1. Bowl

2. A Coin

3. Water

4. Aluminium Foil

5. Salt

6. Toroid

7. 1k Resiistor

8. LED

9. BC548 Transistor

6. Wires

7. Duct Tape or any other

8. DC-DC Boost Converter

9. Multimeter

Working of Cell

P1070553.JPG

Here demonstrated is the cell for generating electricity from water. Aluminium is Cathode and Copper is Anode. By arranging the setup, you can get electricity. Now let's go for it!

Chosing Anode and Cathode

P1070554.JPG

Here we Use a Coin as anode. Because coin contains of about 92% copper. And Aluminium is connected to wire as shown in figure.

Use tape to adhere wire on the coin

Arranging It Up

Drop Coin and Wire with Aluminium foil in water and connect it to multimeter. You will see that this cell will generate upto0.4v.

Note: They should not touch each other.

But this type of arrangement will not generate more than 0.45. So lets make it more practical!

How to Make the Cell

Here also we take the coin as anode. Firstly take coin. But here we will not take directly water. Use wet tissue wipes as shown in figure and keep it on the coin.

Hey Jude, Let's Make It Sour!

The the wet tissue and apply salt on it. As this galvanic cell loves salt.

Completing Cell

P1070562.JPG

Lets complete the cell by putting aluminium foil on the wet tissue and it will generate upto0.7v.

By this cell we can do anything. We can make a joule thief and light an led. So let's make it!

Making a Joule Thief

P1070566.JPG

Firstly to make a joule thief you should be ready with your toroid.

Take a ferrite bead and wind two wires. Join the ends of two different wires and your toroid should match the figure.

More the turns more would be the efficiency!

Now Follow the circuit Diagram and arrange the components as shown in it.

We Made a Joule Thief!

Here this joule thief can survive upon 0.135v! But our cell produces upto0.7v So we can light an LED.

Charging a Mobile

You can also charge up Your Mobile with this cell usiing A DC-DC Boost Converter which converts from upto0.5v to 5v.

So, That's all with this Instructable. Hope you like it!

Thanks!
