Whimsical Windmills

A windmill is a structure that converts wind power into rotational energy by means of vanes called sails or blades. By using your air as an energy source, create your own windmill and watch it work!

Supplies

Small Paper Cup

5 bendy straws

Aluminum Can

Scissors

Pencil

Elmers Glue

Take a pencil and poke a hole in the top of the cup.

Take the pencil and poke four holes in the side of the cup. Make sure they are equal space from each other.

With the help from an adult, take an aluminum can and cut out the bottom. Make sure to poke a safe hole to begin cutting.

Place the aluminum piece on the table round side down. Brush a nice amount of glue around the top of the aluminum piece. Then place the cup on top and let it dry.

Take 4 straws. Measure and cut them to 2 ½ inches. Once cut, bend the 4 small pieces.

Place them into the holes on the side of the cup.

Using the long straw, open and bend it into an ‘L’ shape

Place the straw over the top of the cup and blow directly into the top hole and watch it spin!
