Wireless Robot Communication Through Ethernet
Communicate with a Raspberry Pi robot over an old router or access point. This is helpful in making longer-range robots.
Get Supplies
You will need: A Raspberry pi with imaged sd card, ethernet cable, power supply for Raspberry pi, wireless routeror wireless access point (I am using a D-link Airplus 2.4GHz Wireless access point which I got for about $15 on ebay), and a power supply for your router/access point.
Configuring Your Router/Access Point
First, connect you Router/Access Point to your computer via ethernet cable and power it up. Then, type the Router/Access Point's ip address into the browser bar of your web browser (you can find the ip address of your device by looking up the manual) sign in using default of set login info. Next, set your device as an access point. Turn on DHCP and set a starting ip address. Remember this address. It is now safe to unplug your device.
Connecting to Your Raspberry Pi
Connect your Raspberry Pi to your access point via ethernet, then power up your access point and Raspberry Pi.
On your computer or tablet/phone, connect to your access point's wifi. After you are connected to the wifi, open the remote desktop application on your computer or tablet/phone. Type the DHCP server ip address you set earlier into the ip box, then click connect. You will hopefully be asked for your Raspberry Pi login information. If not, make sure you entered the right ip address into the address box.
