Wooden Eagle Relief Carving

This is a relief carving of a young eagle that I made in my woodcarving class. It is roughly based off of a design in the Marine Carving Handbook, but I altered it to make it without the arrows or the ribbon, because this was one of my first projects. I used a variety of carving chisels but I mostly used  #2 and #3 chisels, along with a sharp skew chisel and a v-tool. I made it using basswood, because it is so forgiving. I used a linseed oil finish on it, because I hate the nasty fumes from most normal finishes. Also I planed off the edges of the wood with a box plane to make it less sharp. This project took me about 40 hours, but an experienced carver could maybe do it in less than 1/4 that time. Hope you like it!
