These are the tools and materials that we use to create our

toy:

Tools

1. Band saw, for cutting out template and toy.

2. Drill press for drilling axle holes.

3. Drill bits, you will size it in a future step.

4. 1" belt sander for sanding the toy.

5. Router table with 1/4" round over bit.

6. SAFETY GOGGLES!!

Supplies
Axles and wheels. I used 1.25" wheels and axles from the hobby store. Here are some examples of axles. Here are some wheels.Wood Glue.Paint. Depends on your animal...2"x6" stock(or scrap). To cut your animal out of.1/8" ply or MDF for cutting template. You could even use card stock or cardboard.

Picking an Image

1. Go to the internet and find a picture

of an animal that you would like to make.

2. Copy the image into Microsoft word and make the image about 5 to 6 inches long with the ruler on the top of the page and print it.

3. Next you will trace along the elephant making the head a little bigger so it looks more like a cartoon.

Then cut out the picture along the lines that you traced.

Wooden Template

1. Trace with pencil the cut out image on a thin wooden template that can fit your whole image.

2. Then using the band saw cut along the lines to get the template of your toy make Sure to ware safety glasses.

3.Sand down the edges of the template to make it nice and smooth with the belt sander, if you can’t get to parts of the template with the belt sander use a hand sander.

Making Your Wood Blank

1. Take your wooden toy template and trace it on a thicker piece of wood.

2. Put on your safety glasses and go back to the band saw and cut along the lines.

3. Then go to the drill press and drill two holes where you want your wheels.

4. Then sand down your toy. Then you are going to router all of your edges and the sand again.

Painting

This step is very simple just paint your toy how you want but make shore that you don’t paint the whole toy so that you can recognize that it is a wooden toy.

Wheels

1. Check to make sure that the axle fits inside the axle hole because if it doesn’t then you will need to make the holes bigger.

2. Put a little bit of wood glue inside the axle hole not on the axle.

3. Put the axle throw the wheel.

4. Put the wheel axle combination into the axle hole.

5. Repeat for all four wheels.
