Words of Wisdom (Cardboard and Paper Head With Words on Top)
Welcome to this instructable of creating words of wisdom head sculpture. This is not merely a decoration piece, but a creation with powerful words on the top, symbolising the influence of positive and inspiring messages on our lives. This can also help you gather your thoughts and keep numerous word ideas in one place, becoming an inspiration board, and a creative dictionary (in my case). To make it accessible, this project was created through simple supplies like cardboard and paper only, making it a small project that can be useful and beautiful to have around your house.
Supplies
- Cardboard
- Paper & Scrap Paper
- Hot Glue Gun
- Markers
Side Design
This head design was sort of inspired by the Loomis method. First off, design the side profile of the face. Essentially, Its like a thin strip of cardboard, made into a circle, a fold on a part for the chin. This will set the base for the entire head structure so be careful.
Design the Stand
Now, the stand which will hold the entire head needs to be made. Simply make a loop at the bottom, slightly smaller than the head size and add three tabs, one for the back and two for the sides which would allow for the cranium to stand (this is the neck).
Design the Other Axels of the Head
Now, make some more cardboard strips that are perpendicular to the side one. Don't forget to also add it on another perpendicular plane, like the x, y, z axes. Finally, to make it stand upright, attach the three strips to the stand made previously.
Add the Nose and More Strips
To secure the structure, consider adding more strips that are perpendicular to the side profile from step one. This will make the other strip stronger and stay in place too. Also add the nose, which I did with two cardboard strips as can be seen.
Scrap Paper
Now, we cover the head with scrap paper, with all the ugly creases and everything. This step is necessary to avoid creasing too much later. I also added some eyebrows in this step with cardboard and covered that up too.
Paper
Now, we cover it up with good paper. Cutting out strips at first, I then just simply glued them on with careful creases that didn't take away from the head's aesthetics. In the end, it looked something like this.
Add the Paper!
Now we start adding paper! In my attempts, I tried to make it so that the words made facial features such as the eyes that wink and eyebrows here for example. Get creative with it, do whatever you like! A thing I decided to do was add a past current and future section to organise my goals. And we're done! Thank you for reading through this instructable and I hope you had a good time!
