We will create a mock up of what can be a smart home device that is mounted on your wall in order to track and control the amount of electrical energy your home uses.

Screen Shot 2017-10-04 at 4.27.34 PM.png

Open Sketchup and draw a rectangle on the X and Y plane, the square measures 50mm in length and 30mm in height.

Step 2

Screen Shot 2017-10-04 at 4.27.46 PM.png

Close the square.

Screen Shot 2017-10-04 at 4.28.34 PM.png

Draw a 3mm base on the bottom of the rectangle.

Screen Shot 2017-10-04 at 4.29.54 PM.png

Draw a curve on the outside of the rectangle. It has to touch the top and bottom of the rectangle.

Screen Shot 2017-10-04 at 4.31.31 PM.png

Draw a second curve, 3mm away from the other curve, this will create the thickest of the wall of the device.

Screen Shot 2017-10-04 at 4.31.40 PM.png

Screen Shot 2017-10-04 at 4.31.52 PM.png

Delete the outside edges to create the curve wall.

Screen Shot 2017-10-04 at 4.33.06 PM.png

Create the top by drawing a curve a little more than 3mm in diameter.

Screen Shot 2017-10-04 at 4.33.13 PM.png

Draw a hook, this will create a place for the glass to rest.

Screen Shot 2017-10-04 at 4.33.24 PM.png

Erase the outside edges to form the curved top.

Screen Shot 2017-10-04 at 4.33.47 PM.png

Erase the top line of the rectangle, as well as the vertical line on the left of the rectangle.

Screen Shot 2017-10-04 at 4.34.18 PM.png

This will leave you with the main profile, create a lip by drawing a sort of S in the middle.

Screen Shot 2017-10-04 at 4.34.41 PM.png

Curve the edges of the profile by drawing curves.

Screen Shot 2017-10-04 at 4.35.09 PM.png

One you have your profile, copy and paste it two times.

Screen Shot 2017-10-04 at 4.35.25 PM.png

Draw a circle o the X plane, the radius being the length of the profile.

Screen Shot 2017-10-04 at 4.36.05 PM.png

Erase the bottom part of the profile.

Screen Shot 2017-10-04 at 4.36.21 PM.png

Using the follow me tool, press the profile and then drag it around the main circle.

Screen Shot 2017-10-04 at 4.36.26 PM.png

You will now have a 3D figure. This is forming the top of the device.

Screen Shot 2017-10-04 at 4.36.53 PM.png

Draw another circle for the second profile.

Screen Shot 2017-10-04 at 4.37.05 PM.png

Screen Shot 2017-10-04 at 4.37.39 PM.png

Again, using the follow me tool, press on the profile and then drag it around the circle that we created on the previous slide.

Screen Shot 2017-10-04 at 4.37.44 PM.png

Once you rotate it, you will have the bottom part of the device.

Screen Shot 2017-10-04 at 4.38.33 PM.png

Go to the bottom view.

Screen Shot 2017-10-04 at 4.38.52 PM.png

Insert text.

Screen Shot 2017-10-04 at 4.40.00 PM.png

You can name it as you want.

Screen Shot 2017-10-04 at 4.40.07 PM.png

Raise the letter by 1mm.

Screen Shot 2017-10-04 at 4.40.49 PM.png

You can check if the parts will fit in when you move them around into an assembly.

Screen Shot 2017-10-04 at 4.41.13 PM.png

You can now export the pieces into a .obj file.

Screen Shot 2017-10-04 at 4.41.43 PM.png

Open apex.

Screen Shot 2017-10-04 at 4.47.08 PM.png

Import the .obj piece and click file print.

Screen Shot 2017-10-04 at 4.47.33 PM.png

You can see how the pieces are going to be printed from top to bottom.

Cut a piece of acrylic being 90mm in diameter, you can create wedges in order for the piece to fit perfectly.

Mount the piece on your wall.
