Pattern
in order to crave, cut, mold, or do anything with leather u must have a general idea ready.
now for the first step choose your piece to work on and inspect for problems such as unwanted dents and or discoloration.
now we are going to get the card and some card stock and make the pattern. get the card stock then fold it in half then put the card against that edge then make an outline then make marks from the outline about 3/8th's an inch away for sewing then cut the pattern out.

Cutting Out
place the pattern onto the leather and use blue painters tape but only let it stick to the paper and the flesh side of the leather and avoid touching the tape to the grain side. now take ur ball point modeling tool and outline the template and then make another copy on the leather then take off the paper and cut out the leather using leather cutting scissors, xacto knife, or utility knife
Punching for Sewing
now you can use a 4 hole punch from tandy and that is what i suggest u use though u could use an over-stich wheel and a hand punch but that would take forever. take your scratch compass and make lines 3/8th's inchs from the edge then start making holes.
also tak a hole punch i used a 5/8ths inch hole punch and i put it half way off the edge and made it so i could easily pull out the card.

Sewing
take ur needle and use wax thread and start weaving between the holes til u get to the end then go back around and fill in the blank parts between the stitches. and now pn to the finish
Finishing and Then Done
i used fiebengs alcohol based dye i use oxblood but u can use any color and i also use wool daub to apply the dye in a circle motion then i use a paper towl to rub off the extra dye then let it sit to dry for a good 10 mins then i apply a coat of supper sheen to portect the color but thats just if u think its going to be used again if not and u think its getting thrown away then u dont have to but i always do
