Stinkbug (or Any Bug) Trap

This is a simple trap I came up with to trap and kill stink bugs, but I think it will work on most other bugs just as well.

Materials

First, gather the materials
- empty bottle or cup
- LED (I used white)
- resistor (I used 200 ohm)
- 2 aa battery holder
- red and black wires (not shown)

Prep Bottle

If you use a cup just skip the first part of this step. for those with bottles, first cut the bottle into a cup. then drill a hole just big enough for the LED in the bottom.

Prep LED

First, connect the resistor to the positive side of the LED ( this is the longer one), then connect the red wire to the other side of the resistor. Connect the black wire to the other side of the LED. Heat shrink or tape over them.
You can kind of see a bulge between the red wire and the LED this is the resistor.

Put It Together

insert the LED into the hole in the cup/ cut bottle. and hot glue it in place, make sure it won't leak when you fill it with water.

Done!

You're finished! Pour some soapy water in it, hook up the batteries to it and leave it on overnight. The bugs are attracted to the light and when they land in the water, they die.
In the picture I modified the wires by attaching magnets to them so that they stick to the li-ion battery I am going to use, but you don't need to do this.
